Leave a Legacy of Compassion

At Bereaved Families of Ontario – Southwest, we walk alongside individuals and families navigating one of life’s most difficult journeys—grief. Our work is rooted in empathy, connection, and the power of shared experience.

By choosing to leave a legacy gift, you ensure that compassionate peer support, healing programs, and hope continue to reach those grieving the loss of a loved one. Your gift—no matter the size—helps sustain our mission for future generations who will need a place to turn during their darkest moments.

Legacy giving is a powerful way to honour a life well lived and support a cause that reflects your values of care, understanding, and community.

A Lasting Impact: One Family’s Story

“After losing our daughter, we felt completely lost. The support we received from Bereaved Families of Ontario – Southwest helped us feel understood when no one else seemed to get it. Leaving a legacy gift was our way of giving back, so that other families will never have to walk this path alone.”

What is Legacy Gifting?

Legacy gifting is the act of leaving a gift to a charity in your will or estate plan. This gift—whether cash, property, or a percentage of your estate—takes effect after your passing. Legacy gifts play a vital role in sustaining charitable missions for generations to come.

Benefits of Legacy Gifting

For Donors:

  • Leave a lasting impact on a cause they care about

  • Enable larger gifts than might be possible during their lifetime

  • Gain potential tax advantages

  • Be recognized for their philanthropy

Common Types of Legacy Gifts

Bequests:
Gifts designated in a will or estate plan, often as a specific amount, asset, or estate percentage. Bequests can support general operations or specific initiatives.

Life Insurance Gifts:
Donors name the organization as a beneficiary or transfer ownership of a policy.

Charitable Gift Annuities:
Donors give a lump sum to the organization in exchange for lifetime annual payments. After their passing, the remainder supports the charity.

Donor-Advised Funds:
These charitable accounts allow donors to recommend how funds are distributed—both during their lifetime and beyond.

We recommend speaking with your legal advisor or financial planner to explore the legacy giving option that’s right for you and to ensure your wishes are properly documented.  For more information, please contact [email protected]
