Peer Support Services

Peer Support Groups & One-to-One Support

Our Services

All of our services are based on the peer support model. Peer support is a form of assistance and emotional support provided by individuals who have also experienced the loss of a loved one – we are the bereaved helping the bereaved. At BFO-SW, this support can come from staff, practicum students, or volunteers who understand the grieving process firsthand and can offer empathy, shared experiences, and coping strategies.

Please note we do not provide clinical services (counselling, therapy) or crisis support.

Not sure if peer support is right for you? Complete this brief self-assessment to find out!

1:1 Peer Support

Our trained peer supporters, guided by their own experiences of grief, provide connection, empathetic listening, and compassionate support. One-to-one peer support can be offered by phone or video conferencing on an as-needed basis. Sometimes, we are able to accommodate in-person sessions depending on volunteer availability. We try to match you with a volunteer who has had the same type of loss, however we cannot make any guarantees.

Available for those 18+.
